B&B La Collinetta
Bed and Breakfast La Collinetta is located in the heart of the Itria Valley, halfway between the provinces of Bari, Brindisi and Taranto. It is also placed 450 metres above sea level in San Marco, the most densely populated village of Locorotondo. It is only 5 minutes distant from Alberobello, 10 minutes from Castellana Grotte, Martina Franca and Cisternino, 15 minutes from the sea (Savelletri, Torre Canne), 20 minutes from Ostuni, the so-called “white town”. It is also 1 hour distant from Matera , the famous “city of the Sassi”, nominated European Capital of Culture 2019. You can visit still more wonders in the Itria Valley.
Anyone coming in San Marco is impressed by the luminosity of the sky turning light, then bright or dark blue and finally red, the intensity and variety of colours of the landscape. White “trulli” surround San Marco which is on a hill shining with beauty. In the middle of the hill there is a majestic Church and its distinguished campanile. When you see it at sunset, it makes you think of a minaret. The nice houses and very ancient “trulli” make San Marco seem a French village with a magic atmosphere like the picture of a wonderful “crèche” even in August.
In San Marco you can find a Bar, a very well-stocked supermarket, a drugstore, a post office, 2 Churches, the oldest one dated back from 1100. You may walk through the country along the roads or on the numerous sheep-tracks called “tratturi”; you’ll appreciate the beautiful landscape and the various “trulli”; among these you wouldn’t miss to visit the oldest “trullo” in the world: “the Marziolla trullo”.
